I really appreciate this post! Although the size wasn't stamped on the side of my bearings, it was the standard skateboard size that I could pick up at the local Zumiez. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for that, Rick, that makes sense.

It may also be worth pointing out that nowadays most digital multimeters have a capacitor test function.

Hi, I (an electrical engineer) wanted to point out that you CAN NOT charge a capacitor with 110AC, or any AC for that matter. You have to use DC.

You might be able to use a 9V battery. (I haven’t actually tried this to verify).

Put your multimeter on Volts. Connect it to the capacitor pins (either way, it doesn’t matter). The meter should read 0V (or very close to it) at this point.

Touch the 9V battery to the pins (again, either way, it doesn’t matter).

With the battery connected, the voltage should very quickly go to 9V (or -9V).
Disconnect the battery, and it should decay kind of slowly back to zero (how quickly will depend on your meter).

Coming back to give an update to the repair I did back in June of 2021. The trimmer is still going, I still have to press the ON-Off twice for the trimmer to turn on, also the turbo mode runs fine. No other issues to report, so again, thanks for the tips and instructions.

I got the batteries re-soldered, installed and almost everything assembled. The two pesky springs, the two steel pins and the T-shaped pin are still looking for a home. I saw one of the comments regarding their home location but couldn't seem to get a grasp on where they actually go. Appreciate any assistance.

Well, first Happy New Year everybody !
Would like to thank Admin for this post because my dishwasher started to make an annoying grinding noise and was going worst and worst. I checked everywhere at the drain pump and under the drain screen where is the chopper blade . . . nothing there . . . nada ! A friend of mine told me that these motor were sealed and doesn't worth to spend times trying to repair it! I'm a DIY'ER and hate to quit at the first obstacle! I continued my research and when i saw your pics, i jumped in the kitchen right away and began to work on it and like Chris after 1 1/2 hr the job was done, didn't need my puller very easy pull had 2 x 608z on hand and silence like when it was new !!!
My first idea was to buy a new motor ( $$$ ) but they're not cheap with the exchange and shipping . . . save a few hundred bucks! Watched a lot of videos like Admin but nothing about replacing the worn bearings on the oem motor . . . guess why ?????

Had the same exact issue. Bought a 2 year old Samsung dishwasher on Market place and with installed was very noisy. Replacing my pool pump bearings in the past, the noise was familiar. Took the circulation motor off and saw the bearing was bad and rusted. Ordered new bearing to replace and it should fix the problem. I am scratching my head a bit because the bearing was rusted. I don't see any leaking, but could have been condensation build up of some sort. Thanks for sharing this write up!

Thanks for writing that up. I recall expecting that I'd need to use a gear puller and being pleasantly surprised when the bearing came off easily. Mine didn't have a shaft leak, so it didn't seize onto it.

I had this very same issue. I lazily bought a "new" unit off Amazon and I'm positive the one I got was a return and suffered the same issue of persistent high pitched noise.

Found this thread and decided to give it a shot.

Unlike OP, I wasn't able to use a pair of vise grips and had to use some gear pullers. Got a 4" set of gear pullers and ground down the jaws to fit within the metal posts where the bearings were sitting. On both units, the bearings were pretty stuck even with a dose of pb blaster.

Hope this helps someone else. Gear pullers made the job easier for me.

Unfortunately, after I broke the batter connection, removed the battery tray, and reassembled the trimmer, I plugged in the power cord, and nothing happened. No green lights, no motor function. It was fun working on it.
Thanks everyone for your advice. It was definitely worth a try.

If you are comfortable foregoing battery operation, it should be safe to simply cut off the battery tray wires and discard the whole tray. If you want to play it safe, you can first break the battery connection and see if it still operates to your satisfaction while plugged in. If it does, you can trash the battery tray. The easiest way to break the battery connection is to cut the tab connecting the two, at the end that popped up. This will take the batteries out of the circuit.

Love my T980 Trimmer. It is the total package all in one. I've had all of the issues described. Finally, yesterday it stopped working & lighting up. I want to save it. I have the side panels off and pulled out the battery's holder.
One end of the batteries popped up out of the holder, but the other terminals are attached by soldered wires. What is meant by, According to Tom, all have to due is put it back together after unsoldering the batteries?

Can I simply snip the solder connections? What is my next step? Thanks to All & Happy Holidays!!

Hey man - I just did this in Sept. '21 & it totally works. I bought batteries just in case but didn't even bother with them. I've had to use it plugged in for years anyway before it completely died, & I'd rather have full power all the time. This trimmer is so much better than the new ones available today & I'm so glad it's back in action! Thanks to Original Post
